About Tsuruhashi
Japanese BBQ, Grilled at the Table
Tsuruhashi is a yakiniku restaurant: Japanese barbecue, where you order raw cuts by the plate and grill them yourself over the burner in the middle of the table. It is not all-you-can-eat. There are two restaurants, on Brookhurst Street in Fountain Valley and on Convoy Street in San Diego.
The Beef
The menu starts at USDA Prime: boneless short rib, bone-in short rib, cap rib eye, rib eye roll and tsubo kalbi. Above that come wagyu and Kobe cuts, up to A5 wagyu short rib and Kobe misuji, plus beef tongue, skirt steak, pork belly and sausage. Family combos put several cuts on one platter and suit groups.
Alongside the grill there are kimchi plates, spicy beef soup, oxtail soup, spicy tofu soup, bibimbap in a stone pot and yukhoe, seasoned raw beef. Mango pudding and ice cream finish the meal.
Before You Go
Both restaurants are open for dinner only. Fountain Valley opens at 5 PM every day except Tuesday and closes at 10 PM. San Diego opens at 5 PM on weekdays and 4 PM on weekends, and stays open until 10:30 PM on Friday and Saturday.
Fountain Valley fills up fast: arriving 15 minutes before opening avoids the line.
